Giving Thanks

Just as in years passed, LifePoint Church showed up in a ‘Big Give’ kind of way for the homeless and hungry of Apache Junction on Thanksgiving Day!

Over three shifts from 9am-3pm and a total of 19 people served a record breaking 128 guests at Genesis Project! In addition to the volunteers who showed up on Thanksgiving to prepare, serve and cleanup, there were many other ‘behind the scenes’ people who donated and even cooked the many turkeys at home to make the feast happen! A total of 12 turkeys between 15 and 26 pounds were lovingly delivered hot Thanksgiving morning.

Although the feast of turkey, green bean casserole, rolls, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, green salad and pies for dessert was an absolute hit, the most treasured part of the day was the Blessing Bags and sack lunches prepared by the children in Kidzlife! On Sunday every child lovingly packed a bag of hygiene products, first aid supplies, new socks and little candy treats. They then added a handmade card and the bag was prayed over. Paper lunch bags were also artfully decorated and filled to the brim with granola bars, cookies, chips and mints. The joy on our guests’ faces as they received the bags and marveled that the children had created each one individually was absolutely priceless.

Though the overwhelming need to even have a soup kitchen is disheartening, it’s an honor and privilege to serve the hungry and homeless as we aim to be the hands and feet of Jesus, not only during these weeks of The Big Give, but always.
