Let’s Get Personal About Volunteering

The Book Of John: Leading Others Out Of The Darkness
I am convinced that everyone that is a Christ Follower can find a way to reach out to the less fortunate with the love of Jesus. By sharing our time, talents and treasures, we are volunteering ourselves to share Christ. I really enjoy discovering stories about people who are using their giftedness to share their faith with people that God has placed in their paths. Not everyone will share Christ in the same manner, but serving others by sharing the Gospel Message is a great start. Let me share yet another story about someone who has a totally unique method of sharing Christ.

Every Talent Counts

“She wore a plain blue housedress and dark shoes, and her dull blond hair was tied in a bun above her collar. When she stepped into the front of the bus, I remembered her. I had been away from my home church for eight years, but I couldn’t forget her shyness. One-on-one contact had been difficult for her.

A quiet smile of recognition crossed both our faces as she walked to the back of the bus.

I wondered why she had boarded and where she was going. Ten miles later, my questions were answered. As she walked off the bus at the next stop, she placed a piece of folded paper on each unoccupied seat. I picked up one of the papers and read about Christ’s salvation, and how to obtain this gift of God.
I thought, ‘So this is how she witnesses for her Savior. She knows the excitement of a daily walk with Christ. Yet shyness prevents a one-on-one evangelism. She is zealous, thankful, and caring, and is using a talent God gave her to share Christ’s love with others.’
I knew that when she returned home she would again leave the tracts and pray that the Holy Spirit would touch those who read them.”

Sharing Christ is a way to volunteer! You may never get an opportunity to teach a class about salvation or learn some preplanned evangelism methods, but if you are willing to pour yourself into someone’s broken life–by sharing the Good News of Christ you are volunteering. The lady in our story was not comfortable speaking about her faith but she was diligent in delivering the Word of God in a flyer placed on the seats of a city bus. Give it a try, lost souls are waiting for your paper delivery.
Remember, volunteering is entirely up to you.

As a Christian Police officer it has always been difficult to fit it with those I worked with. But one night I got a call from a fellow officer whose handicapped child has suddenly passed away asking me to come pray with him. You never know where or how your light will shine.

We are new snowbirds to the area and would like to volunteer. Is the Life Point Care Ministry up and running? If nott, can you provide suggestions where we could get involved?
