Giving Tree

Giving Tree

Each year LifePoint Church spends November and December giving back to the community through The Big Give. One of our biggest events is the Giving Tree. This special tree highlights a ministry in our church or the local community that goes above and beyond for children in our area. This year the Missions Leadership Team has chosen to bless local Foster and Adoptive families! As a church the mission work these families do is recognized as being absolutely priceless to the children they serve. We are honored to give back in such a way as to provide a few Christmas gifts to all of the children in the family. Foster care and adoption are a family ministry and as such we have asked each family to allow us to include any biological children as well. We have 47 children receiving the blessings of LifePoint members for Christmas! The Giving Tree is done on a completely anonymous basis so you will notice that each tag identifies only the gender and age. Tags will be specially coded and all children will be placed on the tree with no identifying information. Each child will receive four wrapped gifts to be placed under the Christmas Tree. These gifts will be a hoodie, pajamas, socks and underwear and one gift of choice.  Please stop by the Giving Tree in the LifePoint lobby on November 25th and choose a tag or even a few! All unwrapped gifts need to be returned to LifePoint no later than December 9th. After all of the returned gifts have been cataloged and organized we will have a wrapping party! If you would like to participate in wrapping and praying over the gifts please let us know. Merry Christmas!

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child

The BIG GIVE Flyer contains the words, “Tis the Season To Give Big.”  This annual campaign began the Christmas Holiday season in late October officially for the LifePoint family and offers numerous ways to give to the less fortunate.  The first opportunity was Operation Christmas Child, a program that had our congregation filling empty shoe boxes with toys and gifts for less fortunate children all over the world. The LifePoint congregation stepped up again big time this year when it came to participating with the Operation Christmas Child fill-a-box campaign. Here are the numbers:   Number of boxes processed,  662  Number of volunteers that said “use me”:  21  Number of Volunteer Hours contributed:  90  Number of large cartons taken to the Gilbert Drop-off Depot:  41 Kristi Shamburg was our point person this year and she did an outstanding job organizing and keeping the ball rolling as we worked to stack the boxes and get them in the cartons for shipping to the collection centers.  Next year, Kristi already has formulated a plan that will make the Operation Christmas Child effort even more fun. Beginning in February 2019, we will designate one item for the congregation to bring to help fill a shoe box. Maybe that first item would be to bring toothbrushes. Each month after that, a different item will be announced and by the time we reach November 2019, we will have hundreds and hundreds of items to fill shoeboxes during a special “fill-a-box evening” at the church. Sounds like fun to me! Thank you again, Kristi and your wonderful team. Thank you LifePoint people for your generous giving efforts that made this year’s OCC box campaign very successful!! Merry Christmas!

Developing Supernatural Hearing

Developing Supernatural Hearing

The BIG GIVE – 2018 – Week Four Missions Spotlight Weekend For years, I have been slowly learning how to acquire supernatural hearing. I have heard a countless number of Christians share about how “God spoke to me” especially when I was a young Christian. I would think about what it would be like to have God speak to me! “How come they are so special, getting to hear God’s voice,” I would ask myself? I began to grow in my faith and got involved in small groups, Sunday morning Sunday school classes, and even took notes in the church service when the preacher preached!! On numerous occasions I would pause, get real quiet and try to hear God, speak to me! However, no voice, no special revelation, no message from God came my way. In early 1987, about 5 years after I was immersed, someone invited me to get plugged into the Missions program at church. Well, I was pretty busy with my career, climbing the corporate ladder at Sears, and I really didn’t know if I had the time to invest in a “missions” program at church—whatever that was. On Easter Sunday, 1987 even though I didn’t know a thing about it, my life was about to change. And that change agent was a beautiful young woman named Susie White. That special day, God began to fine tune my hearing center and now I understand what it means to hear from God.  Please join me on Sunday morning as I share the rest of this beautiful, on-going story as God continues to develop my special hearing sense and how you too can Develop “your” Supernatural Hearing! -Pastor Rick White

The Atoning Resurrection

The Atoning Resurrection

This weekend we’ll be wrapping up Paul’s letter to the Corinthians as we dive into 1 Corinthians 15 & 16. So far, we’ve seen Paul address divisions in the American Corinthian church, sexual purity, how to eat food, how we they should use spiritual gifts, how we they should behave in gatherings, and how we they should treat each other. In chapter 15, Paul presents foundational information surrounding the resurrection of Christ and our resurrection promise in Christ. Pagan beliefs and Greek mythology of the time was influencing the Christian Corinthian and affected the way they spoke of the resurrection. The Greeks would have readily accepted the idea of an afterlife—even an eternal one—but, where they struggled was with the idea of a physical, bodily resurrection. Paul admonishes the American Corinthian Church to remind them of the hope we have in the resurrection of Christ. Christ’s work as Messiah is prophesied more than 700 years before his birth; in the Old Testament the work of Messiah is mentioned over 30 times and Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled all of them! Jesus himself in the gospels predicts his own death and resurrection. This Sunday we will conclude the series on the Corinthian Church discussing the death and resurrection of Christ—I look forward to seeing you and sharing with you! -Pastor Chad Roche

3 things about October 22

What an emotional day! Today marks another year since my wife was born again Christian. She has become my inspiration as a follower of Jesus and is my constant motivation. She is also my best friend in a marriage that is so blessed I cannot understand it. We both came from broken family backgrounds and completely ignorant of how to make a marriage work, yet His grace has found us and guided us in a truly amazing way. I understand fully what being one under the Lord means. Today, besides being an anniversary of Christ’s rescuing of her, my mom gets to leave the hospital after open heart surgery. God has given her another chance to live, and my wife has been by her side in every step of the process. I get to see my mom, who is a believer, have a “new life” on the same date my wife obtained her new life, and they get to celebrate it together today. Today is also the last day of this one-year cycle, from when our lives changed forever. Last year, on October 23, I almost lost my first-born son from a suicide attempt where he fired a bullet to his head as he laid on the train tracks (to be sure the train would finish him). The way he went about it (everything secret, careful to avoid getting attention to his plan) some described as the “most real” case of a teenager they had dealt with. A long and painful process of started that day. So, this one year started with us experiencing horror, fear, unexplainable levels of pain, loneliness, guilt, shame, hopelessness, rage, and on many moments, the lack of will to go on, in the truest sense of the expression. We were caught in the middle of...

Genesis Project

Genesis Project

Genesis Project in Apache Junction has been serving the homeless and hungry since 2006. Monday through Friday, guests are invited in from 12-2p to enjoy a hot meal prepared on site by one of our amazing volunteer teams. As the only soup kitchen in northern Pinal County they have served over 550,000 meals to date! Genesis Project operates with zero paid staff, which means every person involved is a volunteer and chooses to sacrifice of their time and talents to reach the needy! The mission of Genesis Project is to feed, clothe and hydrate anyone in need without requiring documentation of their need or face the shame of having to identify themselves and their personal story of hardship. Everyone has a seat at the Genesis table no matter what! You may not know this but LifePoint has made supporting Genesis Project a priority through a monthly monetary donation as well as providing a team of volunteers to come and serve a meal one Saturday a month. This is a really big deal because some of the guests at Genesis may not have a hot meal from Friday until Monday if special teams don’t serve on Saturday! This Thanksgiving, as in the 7 previous years, we have the exciting opportunity to serve the homeless and needy a traditional holiday feast at Genesis Project. The homeless and hungry will be welcomed in to share a meal of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, salad, cranberries, rolls and all the pie they can stomach! To make this feast a huge success for the 7th year, we need YOU! Please stop by The Big Give booth in the lobby to sign up to provide food or serve. In addition to serving a delicious feast, we would also like to take as many pairs of...

Tongues, Prophecy, & Silence

Tongues, Prophecy, & Silence

We are near the end of Paul’s letter to the Corinthians and he is going to exhort them to focus on condition orderly services, pursue the gifts of the spirit that build up the whole church not just the individuals, and finally he is going to make some statements regarding women in the church that have reverberated for centuries. They have caused great debate, been used to suppress, and cited as proof that Paul affirmed that the female species was lesser than the male species. In fact, as I asked around this week I found that everybody has some idea in their heads as what women are allowed and not allowed to do in the church but no real extensive study. Most could quote scriptures such as 1 Corinthians 14:34 as hard to dispute but were cautious about standing firmly on the few verses alone that the church has used. Knowing this subject was going to be addressed when I started this series two months ago it is something that I have been studying and praying about for quite some time now. I look forward to presenting this chapter of Corinthians with you alongside the infamous Christy “no nonsense” Bentley this Sunday. Get your theological boxing gloves out…we’re going to the mat! Peace, Nathan Bentley
