LifePoint Family Work Day
As we drove through streets with red and blue bandanas thrown over fences to mark rivaling gang territories and drove by houses with broken windows and thirty people living inside, it was hard to believe that this nation with so many basic needs is less than an hour from our own home and church. It’s practically in our backyard and yet it felt as if we had entered another continent altogether.
We saw homes without electricity and saw sheds that families had chosen to live in because it was safer than being in the main house among drugs and gang activity.
Where were we? How had we only driven an hour? We were on the San Carlos Reservation for our LifePoint Family Work Day.
In the midst of the pain we saw and felt on the prayer journey, we were also a witness to hope. We saw churches that had been started by native pastors thriving and heard testimonies of drug dealers and gang members being drawn and transformed by Jesus. God has a hope and a future for this people! He is moving mightily!
“Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” -Matthew 25:37-40
I’ve always found that when I set out to serve and bless someone else, God blesses me. Not with money, but as I give up my own to-do’s, God pours joy and gratefulness over me until, unhindered by my own agenda, I’m able to just be still in His presence and bask in His goodness. As I give to others, God fills me.
What do you have going on June 12th or October 9th?
June 12th, LifePoint is going up for another prayer journey through the San Carlos Reservation. If you want to do something that makes a big difference for the San Carlos Apache Nation, this is it. You do not need to be physically fit to go on this journey, just able to hop in a van. Registration is open now on the LifePoint app and website!
October 9th, we’re going back for another work day! Put this in your calendar now in bright yellow and don’t miss what God is doing. This workday will be vital as we build a house for a family who has waited years. Registration will open two weeks before this event. This workday is for ages 14 and up. Men AND women. Can you hold a hammer (I didn’t ask if you could hit the nail) or turn a screwdriver? Then you’re fit to serve. We’ll teach you everything you need to know.
