Desiring Discipleship
What does it mean to be a disciple? Take a moment and honestly think about that question. We often act as if we know the answer and that we’re following our conviction, but do we? Do our actions portray a different answer? Discipleship is often part of the core verbiage of many churches. In fact, it’s part of our Mission Statement here at LifePoint Church.
“Our mission is to help people become fully devoted followers of Christ through intentionally serving, giving, and caring for our neighbor.”
In Jesus’ last words on earth, He told His disciples to go and make more disciples. He didn’t tell them to simply go and spread the good news or take care of the poor, but the last thing that He intentionally decided to emphasize and leave them with was about making disciples. His disciples would have had a very clear understanding of what that meant. They had just spent three years learning to be a disciple, so while the switch from student to teacher is never an easy one, they understood where the goalposts stood. This Sunday, we will be looking at what it truly means to be His disciple. In preparation, take some time and look at the life and words of Jesus on this matter.
Luke 9:23-24, And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”
