Palm Sunday
This Sunday marks the beginning of Passion Week. A time when we celebrate the events leading up to the betrayal, crucifixion & resurrection of Jesus Christ. This time begins with Jesus’ riding into Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey thus fulfilling one of many prophecies of the Messiah.
Mark 11:2–6
2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’”
4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go.
Here we see Christ riding boldly and courageously into town, not afraid of the anger and intentions of His enemies, no one would need to search for Him, and he would not sneak into the city. No convoys would be sent out to find out what his intentions were, he was coming through the front door for all to see…but not for his glory…rather it would be for the glory of his father.
He would set the example and not only arrive in power but cheerfully and with a Joy from the father. How this must have empowered his disciples, to see their master, like Daniel enter the Lion’s den with grace and confidence.
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday as we remember and prepare our hearts for Easter Sunday.
Peace,
Nathan Bentley
