Discipleship: Answering the Call
This week we will be taking a look at what it means to be called by Jesus. How are we to respond? What should our lives look like afterwards? What does it mean to truly drop everything and follow him? Matthew 4:18-20 gives us a glimpse into what kind of call Jesus presents us with.
18 “As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.”
These men were fishermen. That was their livelihood. In a way, that was their identity. And yet, when Jesus called to them, they left their nets and followed him. He told them they would have a new identity, that they would become fishers of men. They did not understand yet what that would mean, but they knew that they were done with what they were doing before and that their lives would be different from that point on. See you Sunday!
