Disciples Hunger and Thirst

Lifepointaz   -

This Sunday will mark the beginning of a three-week fasting season that we have done here at LifePoint for the last 9 years. It has become my favorite way to start a new year and I can’t imagine not doing it. Fasting can be a very tricky concept for a Christian as they have many questions around the “rules of fasting”. While doing a spiritual fast is not about the rules as much as it is the purpose, there does need to be an absence of food to be considered aa fast. You can forego something for three weeks or consecrate yourself from something like sugar, social media, or your phone, but fasting requires that you go a period without food.

This Sunday I will explain fasting according to scripture, both Old and New Testament and the importance it plays in the life of a Christ follower today. Please be praying how long the Lord would have you fast or if it will be certain days over the next three weeks. This is a discipline that cannot be lost on the church today and if embraced brings healing and understanding to the church body.

I leave you with these words from Paul to Titus:

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

Titus 2:11-14

See you Sunday!

Peace,

Nathan Bentley
