ARM trip recap
Arizona Reservation Ministries (ARM) is a wonderful and hands-on way to learn about Apache culture and beliefs. The prayer journey drives you through the different areas of the reservation as you pray for the people living there. You also work on projects for the day, such as building churches, homes, and other work that needs to be done.
It is touching to see an area so affected by poverty that has active reforms happening. A hospital is being built, and areas that used to be filled with drugs and drinking are being changed by Jesus’ love. One neighborhood was changed for good after a girl was hit by a drunk driver, leading to a reduction in drinking in that neighborhood. However, there is still a lot of work to be done.
You might not expect it to be much different since you stay in the same state, but it is like you are driving into a completely different county. The Apache reservation has its own style and culture. The gangs leave their own mark on the buildings – graffiti. You might also see some burned buildings due to arsonists under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This is a great place to serve and will impact you deeply. This mission is volunteer-based, so come out and work with us at ARM!
