Spiritual Violence
Matthew 11:11-12
Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.
This weekend we will be continuing our series located in the Gospels. Specifically, we will be looking at Matthew 11, and Jesus’ description of john the Baptist. Jesus says something that has confused many a reader over the years, but when his words are understood it further deepens our relationship with God. What does it mean that the violent take the kingdom of heaven by force? We know that we are called to non-violence and to turn the other cheek, so how can the violent take the kingdom of God by force?
