The Shepherd Boy

Nathan Bentley   -
Last week we looked at the rise and fall of King Saul, a man given to Israel when they begged God for a king before the time was right. A few take aways from Saul’s life are, he let the power go to his head, and most importantly he relied on Samuel’s relationship with God rather than have one of his own. One clear aspect of Saul’s character is he was never really a true worshiper of Yahweh. So even though he had God’s spirit to help him, he never relied on it, instead, did what was right in his own eyes.
This week we will take a look at the most clear Old Testament archetype of Jesus the Christ in the person of King David. We will talk about what it means to have a shepherd’s heart as a leader, why the leader needs to have their own personal relationship with God, and putting God’s presence above all else is required if we are going to live a full and meaningful life.
Take some time this weekend and read the first few chapters of 2 Samuel, this is where we get our introduction to David and see how God chooses a King after his own heart.
Peace,
