A.R.M. San Carlos Recap

On my one-day mini mission trip to the San Carlos Apache Reservation, I experienced a
profound mixture of emotions. The brief time I spent there opened my eyes to the harsh realities that the community faces, with challenges in areas like healthcare, education, and access to basic resources. Despite the strength and pride of the Apache people, it was heartbreaking to witness the struggles that often go unnoticed by the outside world.
Seeing the needs of the San Carlos Apache community firsthand taught me how essential it is
to meet people where they are and to approach them with genuine compassion and humility. I
realized that while a single day of service can’t address all the underlying issues, even small
acts of kindness can offer a glimmer of hope and show that they’re seen and valued.
This trip impacted me greatly, fueling a desire to be more involved in serving those who are
hurting. It was a powerful reminder of how important it is to bring compassion into every
encounter.
This trip also challenged the way I view service; it’s not about “fixing” a situation but about
understanding and showing people they’re valued and seen. I learned that love and empathy
often speak louder than words, and that listening can be as powerful as any action. I left the
reservation with a heavier heart but a stronger commitment to being a source of encouragement and hope wherever I can.
